The history of Stagg Hill Golf Club dates back to the 1920s, initially managed by the American Legion on top of Stagg Hill. A pivotal meeting on February 2, 1937, led to the club's incorporation on February 11, 1937. At that time, the cost of a round of golf was $0.50, and annual membership fees were set at $5.00. During its inaugural year, Stagg Hill Golf Club recorded approximately 7,000 rounds played and netted $50.

In 1967, land was acquired from Dr. George Filinger for the development of the current golf course, which officially opened in 1968 as Stagg Hill Golf Club at Filinger Park. The lifetime initiation fee for membership was $125, with annual dues of $100. As of February 11, 2017, Stagg Hill Golf Club celebrated its 80th anniversary.

The course itself consists of 18 regulation holes with an average length of 6,427 yards from the middle tees and a par of 72. Its well-maintained greens, fairways, and tees are complemented by excellent architectural design, creating a challenging yet enjoyable golfing experience. Players will appreciate the tree-lined fairways and strategic features such as a par-3 hole over water and strategically placed sand traps. Nestled alongside the Kansas River, Stagg Hill Golf Club provides not only a sporting challenge but also a picturesque setting.
